LACUNA

Lacuna (2016-18) is an abstract journey into the materiality of identity and image. It is the space between the mind and body, cover to cover, a passage of abstract meditation.

Bodies made strange, the familiar unfamilair. Autonomy, distortion and dissection question the duality, singularity and linear representation of the self. Pinks and blues flow through the imagery interrogating illustrations of flesh and blood, the deceptions of how we see ourselves from our exterior and the value we place on corporeality. Figures split, ooze and shadow, pages begin to affect one another and the printed image becomes both defined and mutable.

The individual construction of each copy created subtle irregularities within the edition. Cutwork, inserts and translucent pages disrupt the formality of the book format. Interrupting the direct translation of image to page and deviating from the more classical Photobook format in an attempt to represent the textures, dimensionality and materials of the original works. Photos created as a book intentional and conscious in their size and application. The undulating and unexplained narrative leaves the reader to search in a space of dissembled reality.

This introspective examination of solipsism and it’s surrounding viscera, finds peaceful un-resolve emerging from an overwhelmed, ectopic body.
